About Karen Weiman
MSW, LISW-S (OH), LMSW (MI), LICDC (OH), EMDR-C, PMH-C
For the last 20 years I’ve helped people move through anxiety toward clarity and peace. We work together to understand what’s really underneath it all, so you can feel lighter, more grounded, and more like yourself.
I work best with people who are tired of feeling anxious and stuck and who are ready to do the deep work it takes to create real, lasting change.
As a seasoned therapist, I use EMDR therapy, NARM therapy, and other advanced methods to get to the root of your symptoms. These deeper therapies are known to have lasting results (not a Band-Aid!).
My Style
My approach is genuine. I come as I am. My hope is that you can also feel comfortable enough to be your true and authentic self with me.
My therapeutic style is collaborative. I want you to feel like yourself as soon as possible. Self-improvement is not always easy. I will be there alongside you through it all, as long as you’ll let me!
Many of my clients find me after seeing numerous therapists first. If this is you, your perseverance is commendable. I am equally determined to help you find the relief you deserve.
My therapy is Change Therapy, not Support Therapy.
I’m not the kind of therapist who just sits quietly while you talk. Real healing takes real change, and I’ll help guide you through what that looks like. I will listen intently and help you gain understanding. I will gently point out your blind spots. We might even laugh at those that are hiding in plain sight. I’ll offer guidance and tools that help you feel better for the long haul, not just in the moment. That might look like learning how to say no without guilt, noticing the moment a spiral starts and stopping it, or recognizing how past experiences are showing up in your relationships today. And then choosing to respond in a new way that feels more like you.
Taking Action
I know how hard it is to ask for help, whether it’s for yourself or a family member. As an experienced clinician, I’ve seen firsthand how life-changing that first step can be. I’ve seen it over and over again. Investing in your emotional health now creates lasting benefits, not only for you, but for your loved ones and others you encounter in life.
I’ve turned to therapy myself when I’ve felt stuck or needed support. It’s made me stronger, more present and productive, and more capable of facing life’s challenges. Because I’ve experienced their impact firsthand, I use EMDR and NARM therapies in my practice. I know they work incredibly well.
My Home
I’ve lived most of my life in Ohio — in the Cincy, Columbus, and Athens areas — but I’ve also called New Mexico, Utah, California, Oregon, and most recently a small lake town in Michigan home. We’re now back in Columbus to be near family, and we’re so happy to be here.
I’m a go-getter by nature, but I also relish those rare quiet moments. I love a good walk in the woods, sipping coffee on a quiet porch with family or friends, playing board games over a home-cooked meal, and shamelessly bingeing a good crime or reality TV show. What?!
I also have two cats who hate being held but tolerated this for a little bit.
I have a vivacious 12-year-old who has at least five times the personality her dad and I have combined. She’s outspoken, with clear opinions, and not afraid to share them. Most of my time is spent either in awe or gently helping her figure out how to navigate the world with that much fire.
And I sing and play guitar in a small band. Well, “band” is a stretch…it’s really just a group of friends sitting around a kitchen table playing folky mountain music for the joy of it, while the kids run around the house. We stumble through songs, crack up over made-up lyrics, laugh in connection when we actually nail the harmonies, and enjoy every second of it.
